Hook Rigger VR Training

In collaboration with ArcelorMittal Poland S.A., we developed an interactive Hook Rigger VR Training. Utilizing ISSVR, we produced decision-based interactive videos, ensured seamless training distribution, and provided tools for tracking user progress.

Hook Rigger VR Training

The training immerses users in the role of a hook operator working alongside a crane operator on the shop floor. Using our no-code Interactive VR Video Editor, we efficiently delivered the project without involving developers in the VR training creation process.

“Aspiring operators can follow the step-by-step tasks and responsibilities, testing their skills and knowledge in virtual reality.”
Piotr Foltyn, ArcelorMittal Poland S.A.

Production of VR Training Video

The training scenario was designed by ArcelorMittal Poland S.A. personnel responsible for staff training, with CinematicVR consulting to ensure compatibility with the decision-based interactive video format. Filming took place at the Kraków cold rolling mill, capturing both shop floor and crane interior footage.

The entire training production, covering the basic tasks of a hook operator, was completed in just a few days. This included a single day of shooting and a day of post-production and editing using the Interactive VR Video Editor. By leveraging ISSVR, we reduced the production time for VR training from weeks to mere days. We also easily incorporated partner feedback in real time without the need to rebuild the training application.

The footage, including immersive crane interior scenes, was shot using stereoscopic 3D VR180 technology in 8K resolution. This approach ensured maximum quality, realism, and immersion. All our VR training video materials are captured using the industry-leading Canon R5C camera with a Dual Fisheye lens.

PC and VR Application

The first version of the training was tested using our PC application, which supports both VR content developed through ISSVR and standard camera footage. The PC application, an integral part of ISSVR, expands the reach of the training program and simplifies testing and revisions.

The ISSVR PC application enables interactive VR training to run seamlessly on standard office computers, eliminating the necessity of VR headsets. This accessibility allows users to train effectively even without dedicated VR equipment.

ArcelorMittal Poland VR Training Making-Of

Training Presentation

The final version of the VR training program, along with the ISSVR system, was presented at the ArcelorMittal Poland S.A. headquarters in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Our partner’s dedicated VR training room provided an ideal setting for showcasing the project. Attendees compared our interactive, decision-based VR film training with a traditional VR application developed on a 3D engine.

Purpose and Application

The training will be used to assess the knowledge and aptitudes of candidates for the hook operator role. It will also serve as a refresher for employees returning to work after extended absences, ensuring that skills and safety protocols are retained.
